Fitting Bigger Tyres on the Jimny

You can fit 235/75 tyres on a Jimny Jb74, you just have to remove the wind deflector of the front bumper.

Bought the Jimny a couple of months ago, with the plan to build the ultimate micro overlander. The first question that comes to mind is how big are the biggest tyres that would fit without issue. After looking around and researching this, I couldn’t find any information on this.

I decided to make the jump and go with 235/75r15 Goodyear Wrangler ATs (no generals in stock anywhere in the country). I have done a fair bit of driving on these and there is no rubbing with one small modification. So let’s move on to the modification, which is removing the wind deflector on the front bumper.

The bumper show above has the bottom wind deflector attached.

The bumper show above has the bottom wind deflector removed.

The process of removing these is pretty simple.

All you have to do is remove a screw holding the deflector and break these off. There is no need for cutting the bumper or anything else and this modification is completely reversible, if you

1. Remove the screw at the bottom of the wind deflector.
2. Keep the screw as this has to be replaced after

3. Break the Rivets off and remove the deflectors
4. Replace the screw to hold center deflectors in place.
